Default Should aircon be ON all the time?

Reading "Honest John" website they say that if you have a manual aircon system you should have it "ON" permanently. They say that if it's not used for any length of time you'll get problems. My 451 Fortwo Cabrio (84) has aircon and I wouldn't normally leave it on all the time, (certainly not with the hood down), what do other users think?

The air con in my cars is always ON ... apart from when the roof is back on my Roadster. The refrigerant has an oil in it which lubricates the seals on the pump shaft, lack of use drys out the seals which results in loss of refrigerant.

For most cars as a minimum it's a good idea to run it for 10 minutes every week or two to keep the seals lubricated.
