    Default Rear coil spring diagnosis

The car sits about 2cm lower on one side. I've jacked both wheels off the ground and there's no obvious break in the coil spring, and both sides appear to have the same number of coils. Is the break typically not visible until you remove the spring, and are there any other reasons for a difference in ride height? Thanks.

Often the break is at the top - you lose a bit of a coil - but it sits in the cup so you can't see it until removed.

Good news is, assuming you have a 450 (1998-2007 smart fortwo) if you take to a smart dealer & ask them to claim under Service Order SO38, you will get them replaced for free.

Thanks, I will ask the dealer - but I thought that was for front springs?

    Lol

I would check every corner (as any corner could affect another corner on the same side) but just buy some new ones !!, the rears were never associated with the free replacement (which Iíll put good money on being completely invalid now - itís 2020 FFS !! )

    As Taim has stated
Rears were NEVER subject to recall so just ignore that comment

Ah sorry guys - didn't realise it was only a front spring thing.

Thanks all. New rear springs ordered. I don't think it's the front as they were replaced by the previous owner not very long ago.

Worth checking your rear dampers too, they have an ever so slight compression to them.
