    Default Exhaust options 453 0.9/turbo

So my exhaust failed unexpectedly (Im still hoping that the dealer and/or smart will see the light and replace gratis - talks ongoing)
On a 3.5 year old car with 33K on the clock, Im not taking it sitting down that its failed.

    The flexi pipe failed.

But in the meantime I thought Id look at my options , as a new one is 250-300 by all accounts (for a box without the cat this is ridiculous)

    So:
    # I could replace the whole box with new (price above) A4534900110

    # I could replace with pre-owned (about 150)

    # I could replace with aftermarket (but I dont want to be changing the lower valance too)

    # I could replace the flexi pipe at about 10 !! (non smart part obviously)

Does anyone know the dimensions of the elbow pipe and the box entry pipe ?
(There appears to be several sizes of flexi on link above - so I just want to get best fit.)

I'd be welding in a new flexi myself. They're 10 or 15 quid for a decent flexi, plus maybe 20 sheets and a pack of biscuits for my local fabricator to do the job in his lunch break. Easy job. Was a time I'd have welded it up myself, but don't have the kit any more. Don't try cutting the old one out and replacing it with a clamp on job, they never seal well and it'll drive you potty.

300 sheets is a helluva lot, a helluva helluva lot, but I doubt they sell enough to get significant reductions for volume. Economics sucks.

Get it off the car, measure it up, order a new flexi, cut the old one off yourself and get that welded up. You'll be sorted by Monday or Tuesday for minimum lolly. Good luck.

    I have welding kit

Car is still in stasis at the dealer because of a remaining DAB problem, DAB reception dies for 10 or 20 minutes at a time ! .... and all they say is they can't fault it
Meanwhile the courtesy cars DAB hasn't faulted in 700 miles along my usual routes.

Ah, brilliant. Hopefully you can get it fixed cheaply if Smart don't do any kind of goodwill.

I couldn't live without DAB. A car drive without the soothing sounds of Planet Rock just isn't cricket.

The 451 suffered failing exhaust flex joints and now regrettably the 453 too. Obviously quality is unSmart and gradually going down hill.

My reliable 2002 Smart Cabrio Cdi however is still on its original exhaust in spite of its age and now having driven the distance from here all the way to the moon.

My 451 diesel flexi pipe was still perfectly intact when I sold it at 6 and bit years old.

So this 453 has just failed prematurely at 3.25 years.

Anyway were talking about 453 exhausts here

Weld in new flex joint if you can deposit sound weld.
