Maybe start again. Delete everything, format the drive ( as FAT32 or FAT ) and then just put ONE track on to see if it works.

What file types are you using?

If so then build from there ....... and see where it goes wrong

Yeah done all that, reformatted the drive to FAT32 then tried again, still no joy. Even tried putting just the one mp3 file on the drive in the root area still no joy.

Tried formatting it as NTFS and that didn't work either. Just says "USB detected" "No multimedia content found" which made me think that maybe it doesn't support USB sticks.

Planning to try connecting my iPhone to the USB to see what happens.

Yeah connected my iPhone to the USB port and it detects it and allows me to play songs off it, I took a photo...

You can see in top left iPhone is connected by USB instead of Bluetooth, you can charge your phone at the same time if connected this way.

I don't think USB memory sticks are supported, the USB is for iPods, iPhones etc

Manual on evilution says it's supported if it's the same head unit. Have you read your manual?

Question is, is anybody here successfully using a USB memory stick to playback files on the standard 453 head unit?

If not maybe you could help out by putting an mp3 onto one of your USB memory sticks to see if it plays back on your head unit.

There is a 4GB USB stick lying around in ours with mp3 music on it and it works OK. (I've just been out and checked as I'm not sure if SWMBO actually uses it.)
When I plugged it in the screen said "USB detected" but I then had to go down through the menus to get to the files and actually play one.

Another thing: dont assume cos your car is freshly delivered that the firmware on the head unit is up to date.
