With full 20/20 hindsight there are several things it would have been good to do. Like checking the compression before delving into the tappets, checking the valve stems were at the same height with the cam removed, inspecting the valve springs etc. I was so convinced it was a tappet that was at fault that I rushed into the job flat out in order to get it back together and hopefully get it fixed.

Next time, need to remember... If a jobís worth doing, itís worth doing well etc.
