20 minutes with the engine running to power a tyre inflator? I guess those JCB tyres are well pumped up now.
The difference between good and great is nothing more than effort and commitment.

What happened was I bought a new electronic tyre inflator and was playing about with it trying to set my tyre pressures.

In the end I gave up and used my old electronic tyre inflator and sent the new one back.

All in all the engine must have been running for 10 to 20 minutes whilst I was doing this.

Worth noting & perhaps using Air con more judiciously.

Air conditioners in passenger cars, vans, buses & freight trucks currently consume over 1.8m barrels of oil equivalent per day- more than 1.5% of current global oil consumption.

With no further policy action, this may almost triple to 5.7m barrels by 2050 https://t.co/5Y60oOPlML

If it were a 50p coin slot (based on cost comment prior to my reply) ..it would be met with "I'm not going to pay for that"

Its what I miss in the 450 but bar a few days don't really need, published by the wife's hatred of wind turbulence from open Windows which isn't much compared to bigger cars anyway! ..however it's the concentration of the driver that matters so I comply. (Helps that I am very deaf too for certain frequencies nowadays).

For me itís not about needing it on all the time, itís to prevent the A/C from needing a re gas.

Letís say for arguments sake it costs me £ 4 extra at the pump every ten weeks and I visit the petrol station five times a year.

Thatís roughly £ 20 extra a year to maintain the A/C, worth it when a re gas could cost a number of times that amount and I have the luxury of cool air in summer and warm air in winter.

In essence, & based on your math you are paying the cost of a re-gas by a tyre fitters type place on a deal every 6 or 7 fills.

How quickly have you had problems with your A/C gas seal etc?

Our 16+ year old Merc is "just about" ready for a possible gas change, it works pretty well once a cabin air exchange has occurred.

I don't follow you. As far as I'm aware an A/C re gas costs about £ 85. Therefore if I am only paying £ 4 extra every 10 weeks to have A/C on permanently then that's £ 20 a year not £ 85 that it costs for a re gas.

Every year for the past five years i've seen deals for WAY less than that, often via ATS, / F1 autocentre for around £29 - £33.50 depending on the deal.

(Often with cashback via TCB or quidco, sometimes as a groupon offer ...prices rise but as I say, over 5 years that I can recall)...pretty common knowledge, can strike elsewhere at short notice if you already know what variant of gas it is.

A few years ago it was £27.50 with a few deals running in competition against each other, I should have got it checked out then, of course sometimes there are different types of refrigerant used which can change prices, (..a bit like a merc mark up vs a regular garage price for kit).

Iím in Jersey donít forget donít have the same amount of competition here so prices likely to be higher.

I donít know never had an A/C re gas but my old 451 needed one when I sold it and the buyer knew this prior to purchase.

EDIT: Iíve done a bit of googling and the cheapest I found so far was ďfrom £ 39.95Ē with some charging £ 89.99.

I bet if I looked into it further I could find less than £ 39.95 and also more than £ 89.99. You are quoting the absolute minimum.

In some instances therefore it may be wiser to block book work off island.

I have family in the western highlands that consider a planned trip to the "city" essential for affordable maintainance, but I don't think they've ever mentioned re-gassing the air-con, especially when the roads through the glen were "don't risk it till spring melt" ditto folks on the *cough* "nearby" ferry served islands.

Even if you donít do the same amount of low mileage as I do, running the air con for an hour once a week would be plenty to keep it operating and it wouldnít add a lot to your fuel bill.
