    I didn't check for an air gap .... just used a 3 or 4 mm 'feeler' (a couple of lolly sticks IIRC ;-) )

    My ESP/ABS fault turned out to be a damaged wire to the brake light switch

    Mine has been on and off for 6 months. I do prefer the car without that goddam awful hill start and never in my life has ABS ever done anything for me other than create headache when it brakes. << notice that

    Finally had time to adjust the gap using two lolly sticks @4.5 mm which gave a 7mm pedal to lights on.
    Now abs/eps stays off
    2002 pure semi auto 64000 miles

    There is an easier and more recently published procedure not requiring below floor access and no need for any fancy Fühlerlehre:
    Simply pull on brake pedal from above in driver’s footwell.

    Brake light switch will then adjust itself and you may feel
    or hear it doing so.

    They were better quality Aldi
