    Default Rear subframe removal

I've just been underneath my 2005 450 to see if there are any visible signs of why wheelbase different on either side after a minor bump which hit nearside rear wheel.
Shocked to see the amount of very heavy rust scale and realised another winter will kill the car so have decided it's time to come off the road to be overhauled.
Dropping rear subframe will be required and wonder if it's possible to do that but leave engine in situ by using a support inside the boot load area ?
    Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to leave the engine in the sub frame and remove the subframe from the car. You obviously have to undo all the various cables and pipes that join the two things together.

I doubt you can remove subframe leaving engine in situ. Normal way is remove the whole power pack including subframe and rear axle as one unit rolling on its traction wheels.

I reckon leaving the engine and box in the car is about five times as much work as taking it out.

Do leave the air con pump in though or you will need to recharge it.

    Man up.

I just took the drive belt off mine.

You don't really want it, it makes stuff much harder to get at.
