Red face Smart Car conversation Kit - assistance needed :)

    Hi all,

I have recently joined so please excuse me if I have started a new post or have started this thread when there is another one currently being used.

I am sure this topic has come up numerous times, if there is any helpful links please post.

My father and I have bought our 2nd smart car (451) of which we have had for some time. We are interested in using the smart car as a project and using it as a kit car.

We are interested in installing a hayabusa conversation Kit. I've seen they have been around for sometime but I am sure alot of things have changed since it was first suggested. I've read that the 07 motor is preferred?

As I said we are fairly new to this (father has a history of building hotrods) but using a bike engine is a different story.

    My questions are...

    What does everyone think?
Realistically how much does it cost? Exc Labour.
What are we getting ourselves into?
    Any alternative conversation kit recommendations?
    Best place to source part?
And most importantly is it worth it?

Any tips and advice would greatly appreciated.

    Thanks to all in advance.

I think hayabusa conversations are seldom successful.

Hayabusa is just too powerful and eats clutches, try something like a GSXR 1000 engine instead

Try fitting a 650cc single cylinder BMW motorcycle engine.

Generally bike conversions aren't that great a prospect - The bikes engines & drivetrains just aren't upto the weight of a car, so they tend to destroy themselves pretty quickly. You'll spend a lot of time building it, a lot of money building it, then lots of time & money trying to fix it when it inevitably breaks down.

Bike engines have no torque, try a Massey Ferguson ... sorry, Harley Davidson engine
