Recently I tested cat litter on wet ice. I found the cat litter turned into a slippery mud so concluded it is no good. Will therefore continue with snow chains and a bag of sand as I have always done.

what particular kind of cat litter ?

There’s numerous formulations .... and I can quite imagine some would turn to a slurry/mud

The cat litter I tested is clay based. Sand is much better. Must be a reason why gritters use sand and not cat litter. Beginning to think real purpose of cat litter in car emergency kit is to make an emergency toilet if stuck in traffic and bursting for a piss or full of ****.

It's not just sand, it's rock salt, most of which they dig out of a big mine in Winsford. It's a lot cheaper than cat litter and probably a lot more effective.

Sand, salt and molasses. The latter makes it stick to everything.
