Cool Smart Roadster Odometer lost Mileage

Haven't been on the site for a while as my Wife's 2006 Smart Roaster has been working fine!
Recently having not been used for a while tried to start it but needed to charge the battery, started and ran fine!
Problem is that the odometer has lost the mileage readout, just a line of flashing lines. Have tried pressing the centre button on the pod but nothing happens?
Have tried searching the Forum but a bit of guidance as to where to look or an indication as to if this is a common problem, much appreciated.
Love driving the car but at over 6 ft and a bad back getting in and out is a bit tricky, would't get rid of it though!!!!!!!

What I would do first and foremost is a battery reset (disconnect the main battery, count to five and then reconnect as cleanly/sharply as possible)
It lets the car's systems re-boot with an immediate 12v and can sometimes clear odd faults.

Thanks for reply. Battery disconnected for 5 seconds and reconnected but no change. Speed needle and digital speed readout on speedo both work when driving!

Have tried drag and drop and copy and paste from my computer but can't attach photo!
All I can advise is that when the ignition is turned on or the engine started to the left of the N (car in Neutral) there are 6 flashing ------ 's.
The time appears to the right of the N, km/h under that and the fuel pump sign and how much is in the tank at the bottom.
Maybe the central button is not pushing on what it should inside the speedo and needs to come apart?

I would suggest you get it to a smart or a smart indy specialist with access to proper merc Star diagnostics , who can attempt to read/interrogate the mileage from the car elsewhere and re-send it to the speedo module which might wake it up.

You've not had any SAM related leak problems with the car in the past have you ?

Also: You don't say where you are in the country ?

Only probs in the past was the useless group in Kidlington, Oxon. Car failed to start, wife took in to main dealer who said works fine come and pick up. Call 10 mins later , car won't start. This went on for a week, eventually told me have cleaned battery terminals and could be starter which we can replace for ~ 700. Took car home fiddled around checking all connections etc etc, even took starter apart which was as new inside. Battery had 12.3 V BUT found after repeated checks one day had only 9 V and back to 12.3 later. New battery and was fine. No SAM issues, car doesn't leak water especially after cleaning out the scuttle drain hole!
Slightly different, other car is a Frontera 2.2 i Olympus Sport 2005, part of a batch of the last ones made. ABS Sensor packed up ~ 140 from Germany or 6.53 for one from a Mazda as suggested from the Isuzu Forum with a bit of drilling and tapping, mods etc. Now just need to deal with split manifold as can't get replacement parts for this model same with CAT.
As the Smart Roadster runs fine not that worried just thought I would see in there was a simple fix.
The guy at the MOT garage I use in Witney Oxon is an ex Smart Technician so will ask him but will try and sort or find a solution myself as I hate not being able to sort issues.
Thanks for your time, until next time.

Go to an image hosting site like imgur.com, upload the image to there, then post a link to it here.
