Ok I understand, read the manual and it said to press the left button twice in quick succession to display service interval which I did...

So does -630 mean 630 miles overdue or 630 miles till next scheduled service? According to my service history booklet a service was carried out at 15134 miles, I don't know whether that was a minor or major service and it wasn't done by the main dealer.

I presume therefore that they didn't reset the service interval counter so its inaccurate, I guess if you take it to a main dealer they will reset the service counter after carrying out the service.

There is information here http://www.evilution.co.uk/458 on how to reset the service indicator.

Your present mileage is 15575 . Why do you need a service now when you have only done 441 miles since last service?

I only recently bought the car with 15280 on the clock, the last service was carried out on 10/02/14 at 15134 miles and I don't know what type. I was going to leave it until February 2016 and then have a major service carried out at the main dealer. I don't do a lot of mileage so at most it will be on 16891 miles in February 2016.

A garage that does not know how to reset service indicator won't know what is required to be serviced and how. Therefore smarter in my humble opinion to have a Smart serviced by someone that knows, I.e. dealer or independent Smart specialist.

Yeah I agree, that's why I am planning to have it serviced by the main dealer in February 2016. The independent might be a bit cheaper but for the sake of 50 or so might as well go to the main dealer and have it done by the book.

The collect and delivery service is ideal for me as the main dealer is about 6 miles away. The independent are just round the corner so I wouldn't really need the collect and delivery service if I took it to them.

I noticed last week or the week before that I now get a spanner flashing when I first start the car which lasts for 30 seconds or so. I guess this is just a service reminder and I should ignore it as the last service was carried out about 700 miles ago and I guess the service indicator wasn't reset.

Its strange that it started flashing all of a sudden when I believe I had already been overdue a service according to the indicator for quite a while.

Planning to take it to the main dealer for a full service in about 5 months and will request that they reset the service indicator at the same time. Just need to make sure there is nothing bad going to happen if I ignore it for the time being is there?

I believe it's 630 days. My car was over 700 when I bought it with a 2 spanner service due.

I am planning to take it to the main dealer for a full two spanner service in about 5 months. I already have the money saved for it. I don't do a lot of mileage about 100 miles a month so that means I will have put on another 500 miles by then.

That is the equivalent of 2.5 weeks of mileage for someone who does the uk average of 10000 miles a year.

I don't think I have anything to worry about now that the spanner is flashing everytime I start the car and I will just continue to ignore it.

Found this thread looking for discussions on servicing. I have treated myself to a brand new Smart Fortwo !! Loved my old one... but this new one is fabulous! The Mercedes Benz dealer is trying to sell me a 19 a month service package....so I asked what the annual service charges were...hold on to your seats...250 and 350!! Shocked.

They have got the pricing wrong !!

The servicing deal/plan for the new C and W 453 is 15 per month, it's 19.99 per month for the older smarts
    http://www.mercedes-benzretailgroup....-service-care/

and their service charges (without the plan) are ~190 for the A and variable for the B depending which year in sequence you're talking because of different parts/things being needed (to be done) on different B's through the sequence , like spark plugs are only every 4 years on the C and W etc
