    Default ABS Fault

Our smart has developed a fault today - the ABS and warning light has come on following a very minor shimmey on some ice this morning
There's no advice in the handbook other than to call Smart Assist - any ideas what could be up with it?

all I can suggest is, if it's not clearing when you cycle the ignition key, check fuse F11 and F34

unless a wheel sensor has been damaged?
and if they're not blown , get it to the dealer (carefully)

Thanks TAIM - hubby will check the fuses tomorrow morning and if not, call smart Assist (it's ~55 miles to the nearest dealer - don't fancy driving it that far!)

good choice, it's almost certainly disabled whilst the light is on

If it's not fuses, it could by anything in the system, ABS pump ,brake pedal switch steering wheel, wheel sensors etc etc
    ie somethingmore complicated
    leave it to them

Check that you still have brake lights.

We've experienced similar problems with our 08 Turbo (only 12k miles in almost 2 years). I left it parked for 3-4 days during the snow and cold, went to start and ABS and Warning lights stayed on, once it started. Went to engage reverse gear, it wouldn't, neither would it engage forward drive. After a few jiggles of the stick, it eventually went into 1, but wouldn't engage A.

I've since used it a few times and it starts fine, but won't necessarily engage gear at first attempt. It does work in both manual and auto. The ABS and Warning light come on part way into my journey and then stay on - being icy I've discovered that both ABS and ESP are working (!) and all brake lights are working. I'll be phoning smart Wolverhampton on Monday.

Update: Smart assist sent a friendly AA man out who checked the car over then suggested that it was safe to drive but to get it to the dealer to be checked.
I drove the car up to Edinburgh on Friday morning with the ABS light on all the way - parked at work for an hour and, when I went to take it to the dealer, surprise, surprise, the light had gone out!
Smart of Edinburgh say that it's the brake switch that's faulty.
Part is on back order (seem to be in very short supply!) and the car is going back in next Friday.

I'm very puzzled why 'a minor shimmey' would make the brake pedal switch faulty??!

it just can't be a coincidence that it happened to fail at the very same time as you had your skirmish

    very wierd
