Forum: General smart topics

This forum should be used where your topic is "smart" related but not smart model specific (see dedicated Forums for each model below).

  1. Club Logo Sticky Thread Sticky: Photo issues on our Forum (and across the internet)

For years Photobucket has been a great place to host photos to then embed into forums like ours. However, this has changed, and to be able to do this from Photobucket you now need to pay a $399 yearly fee. So, we're afraid you'll be seeing plenty of this 4265 from now on :angry::angry:

  1. Advice needed from all you expert "knob fiddlers"

Good people of the forum (& knob fiddlers) Having taken possession of a 450 drinks holder (what gets me excited these days is So sad)! & a 450 parcel shelf, sans six "knob" / end cap bungs, what is the best way of keeping them attached? Are the bungs silicone rubber / can I use a general...

  2. Broke down this morning ...

... the car .... not me. :icon_wink It started first thing with no problem after a week of not being used. Drove 20 miles without problem in both auto & flappy paddle, I slowed for a bend & got a bit of kangerooing and a knock from the gearbox area it it carried on ok. Came to a stop & there...

  3. 450 panoramic roof oplycarb or glass? crazing & leak prevention measure to take.

Whilst buying some (more) maguiars dressing with a u.v inhibitor I queried as to what protects the roof / side windows... haven't looked that intensely as to roof glass / plastic, but side window triangles obviously are plastic. Nothing that Maguiars do within their range is applicable for...

  6. with smart going electric only from 2019, will your next car be a smart?

Had a test drive of a couple of forfour autos yesterday (both 71 and 90hp versions) at Mercedes Manchester. Very impressed with them, even the 71 felt nippy around town and was adequate on the M60, but maybe I'm just used to a lack of power having driven a 71hp 451 for 10 years and plan overtaking...

  7. fit facelift dash pods to pre facelift 451?

Hi, I recently acquired a 2008 Smart ForTwo 451 turbo and I bought some dash pods for a facelift 451 by mistake on ebay. Before I send them back, is it possible to buy a pod base for the pre facelift 451 and reuse the same pods?

  8. Smart Extended Warranty!!

So, following correspondence from Smart, I'm now paying twice as much for a much downgraded Warranty grrrr!! Apparently the underwriters have reassessed the risks and now there is only one tier, no breakdown cover etc. My policy went from 24 to 47 pcm..... outrageous but you know what will...

  9. Smart 453 - manual or auto?

Hi, I'm browsing for a used 453 ForTwo as a commuter/runabout, the manual cars are a bit cheaper are they ok to drive or is the auto much better? I'm aware the manual is only 5 speed, with a slightly shorter final drive. Is the shift smooth?

  11. Hire car smart?

Having come back from Switzerland / France recently I saw more than a few smarts (curiously enough). My wife & I are when not carrying my snowboards (visit summer & winter) pack light, & soon it will likely be just the two of us in an unnecessarily massive hire car. Now the problem is...

  12. Electric fortwo & forfour @ fullycharged show (silverstone) ..expensive farce

Oh smart, you dropped a b0110ck, block of led's, sound & 2 fully electric vehicles at the show yesterday, but the sole purpose was for the girls (without any product knowledge) to merely be there to gather emails for marketing purposes. The boot of the EV for two was locked up citing "key fob...

  13. Sili"con" or not?

Having just tried to buy some Sonax "pfleger" the other day (the links from evilution weren't up to snuff on this occasion) I looked it up on amazon, ordered (the price had rocketed up whilst in my basket recently so I voided the sale) now with it back down to previous levels I purchased. Ended...

  14. Smart media TomTom update.

I've had an email from TomTom to carry out a critical update by the 6th April 2019. Has anyone else had this and carried out the update?

  15. South East England - Looking for a Cabrio (any but MHD) or Brabus (coupe or cabrio)

I'm trying to get myself a cheaper car for a fun runaround (already have a 17 reg ForTwo which is going soon) and have had Smarts since 2005 so familiar with the brand and the evolution from the days of turbo lag and turbos going bang :icon_smil. I came back on here to see if there were any...

  16. Cool 450 17th Birthday...

Hello there, My 02 Pulse celebrated its birthday today with an MOT pass, so hopefully another year of trouble free (ish) motoring ahead. Just 1500 miles covered in the past year with the only issue being a flat battery in November after having not driven for approx. 3 weeks. However this was...

  17. Dog transportation

Hi all, We recently picked our little border terrier pup up and he's loving life. I have been putting him in the boot of our 450 when we go out (2 of us in the car, plus the dog). This isn't ideal as he isn't tethered in anyway. Just wondering what you guys do/where you attach them to? ...

  18. Sell or Stash?

I've owned my 2002 Smart Fortwo (City-Coupe, to give it the period correct name) for nearly two years. For the eleven years previous to that it was registered to my partner, so it has been "our" car for almost 13 years. We bought it privately at 4 years old having wanted one for ages, can still...

  19. Car insurance

Yes, it's that time of year for me. My renewal came through from Admiral at just over 220. Not too bad, but just for reference I thought I'd try a few places. Not gone on the comparision sites yet, just tried smart's own insurance for starters. I have 12+ years NCB, drive less than average...

  20. Thumbs up Thanks to Fudgesmart

After some 13 years and over 162,000 miles (261,000km) the engine in my 2005 fortwo decided it had enough of running on 3 cylinders. It was not the usual burnt out valve scenario that can happen, but mainly due to a failed timing chain tensioner, causing the chain to go slack, chewing a hole in the...
