Only get 37-47 mpg, mainly 42 mpg. Its been to Smart 2 times, 1 Ecu download, 2nd time no faults. They... Its been to Smart 2 times, 1 Ecu download, 2nd time no faults.
They know, well and truely that the engine is not economical. They had my car for weeks, and could only get 42-47 mpg, no matter how hard they tried.
Ive tested it on open roads in top at50-60mph, 47.9 mpg best ever.
It stinks of petrol on cold start, I know the fuel is rich then, but more than any other car when cold, even a 4.0 Jag!!
It took trading standards and numerous recorded delivery letters to all departments to get any response from anyone.
Eventually paying £600 as good will gesture to make up from 45mpg to a reasonable 60 mpg over a given period.
This was only accepted reluctantly, due to their hard nosed attitude.
My fiat uno 45 in 1984 driven across france, fully laden at 70mph plus recoreded 45 mpg,
my mums Allegro1.1 in 1977 between Bham and Bristol on A38 did nearly 50 mpg, to name only 2 examples.
The car other than that is good, fun, etc.
Why do so many accept this, I wont have another.

This left a void in the UK smart scene for a magazine. Being the webdesigner I am I decided to start up onSMART (http://onSMART.co.uk) which started off pretty good. It uses an open source CMS... Being the webdesigner I am I decided to start up onSMART which started off pretty good. It uses an open source CMS system, which works really well, and lots of open source software.

I was promised a lot of help, and in the beginning it was forthcoming, too much infact, but since, it's tailed off quite a bit. I'm not sure why, but it has. We still get in excess of 1700 unique visitors per day, and have links from smart clubs and websites all over the world.
